iPhone 16 Leaked: What You Need To Know

Ahead of the reveal and official release, the iPhone 16 has leaked—from the base model to the Pro Max. Almost everything, from the colour options to the camera upgrades, has leaked online from a range of sources.

Since the release of the iPhone 15 and Apple delving into artificial intelligence tools, people have been eagerly awaiting the next generation of iPhones.

Apple has begun sending out invites—if you’re lucky enough to get one—for the iPhone 16’s keynote event on Monday, September 9 at 10 A.M. Pacific. It’s all but confirmed that the iPhone 16’s official release date will be announced then.

The iPhone 16 is also speculated to launch alongside the new iOS 18 update, announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. If you’re keen to test out iOS 18 early, it’s currently running a public open beta.

We’ll cover all the iPhone 16 rumours and leaks. This includes whether there’ll be an iPhone 16 Pro Max model, delving into the iPhone 16 colour options, and how it’ll compare to the 15 series.

iPhone 16 Rumours & Facts

Rumours and leaks have been floating around over the past year regarding the iPhone 16—a very ‘will it won’t it’ situation when it comes to specifications and features. Below, we’ve outlined the most common rumours and facts about the upcoming iPhone 16.

Release date

The iPhone 16 release date is creeping closer and closer, but Apple still hasn’t confirmed an official day. Based on previous release trends for iPhones, the best information we have is that the 16 should land in stores around Friday, September 20.

This information comes from various reputable sources and media outlets, including Forbes. Apple has announced a special keynote event for September 9. Typically, the company puts up preorders within a week of announcing new devices and launches them not long after. The iPhone 16 is expected to be launched in mid-to-late September, along with new accessories, including Apple watches and AirPods.

The line-up

According to most tech industry news outlets and Apple rumour news, the iPhone 16 lineup will be similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 15, on launch. The base model will be the iPhone 16, the upgraded base model, the iPhone 16 Plus, and then the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models.

Specs

There has been no official confirmation regarding the specs of the iPhone 16 models, but there have been leaks and rumours floating around. If you’re an avid gamer, you’ll be happy to know that most outlets report a significant boost in processing and GPU.

The iPhone 16 models are rumoured to come with either an A18 or A17 Pro chip, depending on the model, backed by 6 to 8 GB of RAM. It looks like Apple is making the iPhone 16 range of phones the go-to mobile device for gaming with its specs.

Sources also report that the battery life will be better than that of the iPhone 15 series. This is not only due to the larger battery capacity but also because the phone is expected to be more power efficient, leading to better battery life.

The iPhone 16 models are going to be packed with either WiFI 6E or 7 support, which means faster download/upload speeds. This is important for browsing, streaming videos or games, and playing online.

The new A18 chip, rumoured to be in the iPhone 16 models, will also be better for Apple’s new on-phone artificial intelligence tools. This is because the chip would have a larger die space, allowing for more transistors or specialised hardware.

Camera technology

For photographers or TikTok makers, the iPhone 15 to 16 series will bring a massive improvement in camera technology. Apple has always been at the forefront of pushing mobile camera technology, and the same is expected this year.

It’s rumoured that all the upcoming models, the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max, will all receive improvements over their 15 series counterparts. This also includes adding a dedicated capture button to the phone’s design.

It’s also been leaked, but not confirmed, that the 16 Pro and Pro Max phones will be getting a huge upgrade for the ultrawide camera. It’ll be moving from the 12-megapixel setup from the 15 series to a gorgeous 48-megapixel setup.

Pricing

You’ll have to wait until Apple’s keynote event for the official pricing, but a few news outlets have speculated on the pricing based on previous iPhone generations and leaks.

The Apple iPhone 16 base model is estimated to start around $1,200. The iPhone 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and Pro Max are estimated to start around $1,300, $1,600, and $1,760 respectively.

Accessories

The iPhone 16 series of devices is also expected to launch alongside new accessories, including a new generation of Apple Watches and AirPods. The iPhone 16 should also be compatible with all previous generations of Apple accessories, as well as Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

iPhone 16 Vs iPhone 15

Aside from when the iPhone 16 is coming out, the other big question is who would win in the iPhone 16 vs. 15 competition. For anyone wanting to experience the latest Apple has to offer, the iPhone 16 would be the obvious choice.

While the iPhone 16 hasn’t been released yet, and much of the information we have is based on leaks, the 16 series of phones is expected to improve over the 15th generation in every way, from the processor to the display and design.

The iPhone 16 series will feature the advanced A18 chip, which will provide better performance in all areas over the 15 series phones and improved energy efficiency. Battery life will also be better, and so will the camera.

When To Buy A Refurbished iPhone 16

Refurbished versions of the iPhone 16 models should be available soon after launch. If you want to upgrade to an iPhone 16 but want to save money or get a better deal because you’re on a budget, buying a refurbished one is a great option.

Buying refurbished is also an eco-friendly and cost-effective shopping option. Refurbished products result in lower greenhouse gas emissions, a smaller carbon footprint, and lower e-waste.

If you’re looking to buy a refurbished iPhone 16 through the official Apple stores, it could take anywhere from 6-12 months for them to become available. If you’re looking to buy through third-party retailers, they’re available sooner—commonly a few months after launch.
